Macaroon Pie - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. sugar, divided
    1/2 to 3/4 c. chopped pecans
    1 tsp. vanilla
    20 Ritz crackers or 16 soda crackers, rolled fine with rolling pin
    12 dates, chopped fine (may use more if desired)
    1/2 tsp. baking powder
Preparation
    Mix 1/2 cup sugar, dry ingredients, fruits and nuts together. Beat egg whites until stiff.
    Add 1/2 cup sugar and vanilla.
    Beat until thoroughly mixed.
    Fold in dry ingredients.
    Pour into 9-inch ceramic pie plate (ungreased) and bake at 350\u00b0 for 30 minutes. Cool thoroughly and top with Cool Whip.
