Plain Doughnuts - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 egg, beaten
    1/2 c. sugar
    1/2 tsp. vanilla
    2 Tbsp. margarine
    2 c. sifted flour
    2 tsp. baking powder
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1/4 tsp. nutmeg or mace
    1/2 c. milk
Preparation
    Beat eggs, sugar and vanilla together.
    Stir in butter.
    Add sifted dry ingredients with milk.
    Add 2 to 4 tablespoons flour, if necessary to make a soft dough.
    Roll on floured surface to 3/4-inch thickness and cut with donut cutter.
    Fry in hot (hot, not smoking) oil for about 1 1/2 minutes on each side.
    Drain on paper towel.
    Roll in powdered sugar, sugar or cinnamon-sugar.
