Gladys' Red Velvet Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. shortening
    1/2 c. sugar
    2 eggs
    2 oz. red food coloring
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1 c. buttermilk
    2 1/4 c. flour
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1 tsp. baking soda
    1 1/2 tsp. vinegar
    2 tsp. cocoa
Preparation
    Cream together shortening and sugar; add eggs and beat well. Combine cocoa and food coloring and blend to a paste.
    Add to shortening mixture; blend.
    Add vanilla, buttermilk, flour and salt to mix.
    Combine vinegar and soda and stir gently into batter.
    Immediately pour into greased pan and bake at 350\u00b0 for 30 minutes.
    Served best with cream cheese frosting.
