Ingredients

4 lb. pork spareribs
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. mixed pickling spice
1 small onion, coarsely chopped
2 tsp. vegetable oil
1/2 c. maple syrup
1/4 c. vinegar
2 Tbsp. water
1 Tbsp. Dijon-style mustard
dash of salt
1/4 tsp. freshly ground pepper
Preparation

Sprinkle spareribs with the 1/2 teaspoon salt.
Tie pickling spice in several thicknesses of cheesecloth to make a bouquet garni; set aside.
