Ingredients

1 C each milk and boiling water
1 pkg active dry yeast
3 C whole wheat flour
4 1/2 - 5 cups all-purpose flour
3/4 C sourdough starter, at room temp
1/4 C molasses
1 Tbsp salt
3 Tbsp butter or margarine at room temp
1 tsp baking soda
Preparation

In large bowl, combine milk and boiling water; let cool to about 110\u00b0F.
Stir in yeast and let stand until dissolved.
Stir in whole wheat flour, 1 cup of the all-purpose flour and the sourdough starter; beat until smooth and elastic (about 5 minutes).
Cover bowl with plastic wrap and let stand in a warm place until mixture is very bubbly and spongy looking (about 1 hour).
