Welsh Cakes - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    8 oz. flour
    4 oz. butter
    3 oz. currants
    a little milk
    1/2 tsp. baking soda
    3 oz. sugar
    1 large egg
    1/2 tsp. nutmeg or allspice
Preparation
    Mix spices and flour; rub butter into spiced flour.
    Add sugar and currants; bind with beaten egg and milk to form a stiffish paste.
    Roll out on floured board to about 1/4-inch thick.
    Cut into 2 1/2-inch rounds.
    Bake on moderately hot griddle 3 to 5 minutes each side until mottled brown.
    Sprinkle with sugar. These take only a few minutes and they're really wonderful.
