Turtle Cake - cooking recipe

1 box German chocolate cake mix *
1/4 c. margarine, melted
2/3 c. evaporated milk
1 (14 oz.) Kraft caramels
1 (6 oz.) chocolate chips
1 c. nuts (optional)

*If cake mix does not call for oil, use 3/4 cup margarine instead of 1/4 cup.
