Freida'S Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 qt. cucumbers, sliced
    6 medium white onions, sliced
    2 red sweet peppers, cut in strips
    3 cloves garlic (whole)
    1/3 c. pickling salt
    5 c. sugar
    1/2 tsp. turmeric
    1/2 tsp. celery seed
    3 c. cider vinegar
Preparation
    Add cucumbers, onions, peppers, garlic and cloves in a large bowl.
    Add salt; cover with cracked ice, then mix thoroughly and let stand for 3 hours.
    Drain completely; place ingredients in large cooking pot.
    Combine remaining ingredients; pour over cucumber mix.
    Heat to boiling and seal in sterilized hot jars or cool mixture and store in refrigerator.
    Add vinegar and sugar, if needed to cover pickles before heating.
