Rummtopf - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 lb. ripe fruit
    rum (at least 54% alcohol)
    1/2 lb. sugar
Preparation
    Place fruit in a clean, large earthenware jar with a glass lid. Pour in sugar.
    Let sit until sugar melts and makes a sauce.
    Add rum until it stands 2 centimeters above the fruit.
    (With a real large jar, you can make a second layer by repeating first 3 steps.) Cover with lid and let stand for 14 days.
    Make sure alcohol stays above fruit level.
