Mrs. Hammett'S Date Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients

1 (7 oz.) pkg. dates
1 c. boiling water
1 tsp. soda
1 Tbsp. shortening
1 c. sugar
1 whole egg
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. nuts, chopped

Preparation

Chop dates; cover with boiling water and add soda.
Cream sugar and shortening; add egg, vanilla and nuts.
Mix thoroughly. Add cooled date mixture.
Add 1 1/2 cups sifted flour and 1/4 teaspoon salt.
Mix well; bake in well-greased pan at 325\u00b0 for 50 minutes.
