Mother'S Good Bread Pudding - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. bread crumbs
    2 c. milk, scalded
    1 Tbsp. butter, melted
    2 egg yolks
    3 Tbsp. sugar
    1/2 tsp. vanilla
    few grains of salt
    jelly
    2 egg whites, stiffly beaten
    2 Tbsp. sugar
Preparation
    Cut soft bread into slices and break into crumbs.
    Pour over them scalded milk and the melted butter.
    Let stand 5 minutes. Beat egg yolks; add 3 tablespoons sugar, vanilla and salt. Combine with bread mixture and turn into baking pan.
    Set in pan of hot water in slow oven and bake 45 minutes or until custard is firm.
    Cool.
    Spread with a layer of jelly and cover with the stiffly beaten egg whites to which 2 tablespoons of sugar has been added.
    Brown in oven and serve hot or cold.
