Queen Elizabeth Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. sugar
    1 1/2 c. flour
    1/4 c. butter
    1 c. dates, chopped
    1 egg, beaten
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1/2 c. nuts
    1 c. boiling water
    1 tsp. baking soda
Preparation
    Pour water over soda and dates.
    Let stand while mixing remaining ingredients.
    Add date mixture to batter, stirring well, and pour into a 9 x 13-inch baking dish.
    Bake at 350\u00b0 for 35 minutes.
