Pizza Puff - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 lb. bulk pork sausage
    8 slices white bread
    1/3 c. tomato paste
    3 slightly beaten eggs
    2 c. milk
    1 1/2 tsp. dried basil, crushed
    8 oz. Mozzarella cheese, sliced
    1/2 tsp. salt
Preparation
    In skillet, break up sausage; cook slowly, uncovered, for 15 to 20 minutes or until thoroughly cooked, turning meat to cook evenly.
    Drain well.
    Place 4 slices of the bread in bottom of a greased 8 x 8 x 2-inch baking dish.
    Combine tomato paste and basil; spread over bread in pan.
    Place half of the cheese slices over bread.
    Spoon all of the sausage over cheese; place remaining cheese slices over sausage.
    Top with remaining bread slices, trimming crusts, if needed, to fit.
