New England Clam Chowder - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 stick butter or margarine
    flour to thicken
    1 onion, thinly sliced
    4 c. red potatoes, diced
    4 c. celery, thinly sliced
    1 qt. half and half or milk
    4 cans minced clams with juice
    salt and pepper to taste
Preparation
    Melt 1/2 stick of butter and stir in onions.
    Fry until onion is translucent.
    Add 1/2 stick butter and 1 tablespoon flour.
    Mix well.
    Add half and half, a little at a time, alternating with water.
    Mix in clams with juice.
    Bring to boil.
    Add potatoes. Add celery.
    Add salt and pepper to taste.
    Add flour to thicken, if desired.
    Bring to a boil until vegetables are tender.
