Chop Suey - Chicago Style - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 lb. meat (pork or veal or mixture of both)
    shortening
    1 medium celery stalk, cut up
    1/2 onion, chopped
    salt and pepper
    4 Tbsp. soy sauce
    1 Tbsp. molasses
    1 tsp. sugar
    2 Tbsp. cornstarch
Preparation
    Trim skin and excess fat off meat.
    Brown in hot shortening in heavy skillet; add onion and continue browning.
    Pour off excess shortening and cover meat and onion with water.
    When it begins to boil, add chopped celery, salt, pepper, soy sauce, molasses and sugar.
    Simmer about 2 hours.
