Bread And Butter Pickles(Approximately 9 Pints) - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    16 c. cucumbers, sliced 1/4-inch thick
    6 c. thinly sliced onions
    1/2 c. salt
    water
    3 trays ice cubes
    3 1/2 c. sugar
    4 c. cider vinegar
    1 1/2 tsp. celery seed
    1 1/2 tsp. mustard seed
    1 1/2 tsp. turmeric
    9 pt. canning jars and lids
Preparation
    In large container, mix well cucumbers, onions and salt. Cover with water and ice cubes.
    Let stand for 3 hours.
    Set aside.
    In another large pot, mix sugar, vinegar, celery seed, mustard seed and turmeric over high heat.
    Bring to boiling point, stirring constantly.
    Reduce heat and simmer for 30 minutes, stirring often.
