Elsie Dodge'S Watermelon Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    watermelon rind
    4 c. sugar
    2 c. vinegar
    1 Tbsp. whole cloves
    2 Tbsp. cinnamon
Preparation
    Cut rind in 2-inch strips.
    Soak in brine 24 hours, using 1/3 cup salt to one quart water.
    Rinse, drain and cook in boiling water until tender.
    Tie spices in bag and boil 20 minutes with vinegar and sugar.
    Add melon rind and cook slowly 1/2 hour. Place in jars. Seal.
