Sicilian Toast - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 loaf Italian or French bread
    1 or 2 ripe tomatoes
    2 cloves fresh garlic
    1/4 lb. butter or margarine
    2 Tbsp. olive oil
    coarse ground black pepper to taste
    Romano cheese
Preparation
    Slice bread into 1-inch slices.
    Melt butter in olive oil. Mince garlic and basil.
    Saute in butter-oil mixture.
    Chop and seed tomatoes.
    With pastry brush, dab bread with garlic butter mixture.
    Cover bread with chopped tomatoes.
    Pepper generously and sprinkle with Romano cheese.
    Place under broiler until browned.
