Pumpkin Spice Cake - cooking recipe

1 pkg. honey spice cake mix
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 c. chopped nuts
1/2 c. finely cut dates
1 c. cooked canned pumpkin
Preparation

Combine cake mix and baking soda, then proceed according to package directions on cake mix box, substituting the pumpkin for the last addition of liquid.
Fold in nuts and dates.
Bake in 1 (9-inch) greased and floured cake pan.
Bake as directed on package.
You may use white or yellow cake mix with spices added as suggested on package, adding soda at same time.
Add 1 cup pumpkin instead of last addition of liquid.
