Pralines - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. sugar
    1 c. buttermilk
    2 Tbsp. margarine or butter
    1/4 tsp. (generous) baking soda
Preparation
    Mix together in a large pot, cook slowly to a soft ball stage, stirring often.
    Take off heat and add 2 cups pecans and 1 teaspoon vanilla.
    Stir until it starts to set up.
    (This doesn't take long and it gets hard quickly.)
    Drop onto waxed paper.
