French Tomato Soup(Makes 8 To 10 Servings) - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    5 large carrots
    5 small onions, sliced
    5 Tbsp. butter
    1/4 c. raw long grain white rice
    1 qt. canned tomatoes, pureed
    1/2 tsp. soda
    1 qt. hot milk
    1/2 c. warm light cream
    salt and freshly ground pepper to taste
Preparation
    In a large kettle, butter-steam carrots and onions, covered, for 15 minutes (without browning) or until tender.
    Steam rice and add to vegetables with tomatoes and soda.
    Add milk and cream. Reheat, without boiling, and season with salt and pepper.
