Ingredients

2 c. sugar
1 c. butter
1 c. buttermilk
4 c. flour
1 Tbsp. cinnamon
1 Tbsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. cloves
2 c. jam or preserves
6 eggs
1 1/2 tsp. soda
Preparation

Cream butter and sugar lightly, then add eggs and beat all together.
Combine buttermilk and soda and add alternately with flour and spices.
Add preserves last.
This makes a large cake. Two-thirds of the recipe makes two 8-inch layers.
