Butterscotch Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 3/4 c. brown sugar
    1/4 c. butter
    1 1/2 c. milk
    3 c. cake flour
    3 tsp. baking powder
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1/2 c. shortening
    1 tsp. vanilla
    3 eggs, well beaten
Preparation
    Combine 1 cup of brown sugar, butter and 1/4 cup of milk and heat, stirring constantly, until a small amount forms a hard ball when tested in cold water. Heat remaining milk and stir into syrup gradually. Cool. Sift flour, baking powder and salt. Cream shortening with remaining sugar and vanilla. Beat eggs until light and add creamed mixture gradually, beating thoroughly. Add dry ingredients and butterscotch mixture alternately. Bake at 350\u00b0 for 50 to 60 minutes. Makes one 10 x 10-inch cake.
