Caramels - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. butter
    1 lb. brown sugar
    pinch of salt
    1 c. light corn syrup
    1 (15 oz.) can Eagle Brand milk
    1 tsp. vanilla
Preparation
    Melt the butter in a 3-quart saucepan; add brown sugar and salt.
    Stir until combined.
    Stir in corn syrup and mix well. Gradually add the condensed milk, stirring constantly.
    Insert candy thermometer and cook over medium heat until candy reaches 245\u00b0 (firm ball stage).
    This will take around 12 to 15 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla.
    Mix well and then pour into a buttered 9 x 9 x 2-inch pan.
    Cool and cut into squares.
    Yield: 2 1/2 pounds.
