Wilted "Killed" Lettuce And Onions - cooking recipe
Ingredients

4 to 6 c. green leaf lettuce, freshly picked
1 c. chopped young sweet green onions
1/3 c. bacon grease or oil
1/3 c. white vinegar
1/3 c. water
1/8 tsp. sugar
1/8 tsp. salt
1/8 tsp. black pepper
fried bacon, broken in pieces (optional)
Preparation

Wash lettuce and pat dry with paper towels.
Combine lettuce and onions in a large bowl.
Set aside.
In a saucepan over high heat, combine oil, vinegar, water and sugar.
Bring vinegar mixture to a boil (do not boil in microwave) and pour over the lettuce and onions, stirring and turning the lettuce so most of the lettuce comes in contact with the hot mixture.
Sprinkle with salt and pepper.
Add bacon, if desired.
