Minestrone Soup - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. dry navy beans
    cold water
    1 small head cabbage, sliced
    3 carrots, diced
    2 turnips, diced
    1 (1 lb.) can Italian-style tomatoes (undrained)
    2 Tbsp. oil
    1 c. thinly sliced onion
    1 large tomato, peeled and chopped
    1/2 c. chopped celery
    2 Tbsp. chopped parsley
    1 clove garlic, minced
    1 c. broken up thin spaghetti
Preparation
    Cover beans with water; soak overnight.
    Drain and rinse beans.
    Put in large kettle with 3 quarts of water; bring to boil and simmer gently for 1 hour, covered.
    Add cabbage, carrots, turnips and canned tomatoes; cover and continue simmering 1/2 hour longer.
