Peppernuts - cooking recipe
Ingredients

2 c. flour
1/4 c. shortening
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. ginger
1/2 tsp. soda
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 c. water
1/4 c. molasses
1/8 tsp. pepper
1/2 tsp. oil of anise
Preparation

Sift flour once before measuring.
Cream shortening; add sugar, cinnamon, salt and pepper.
Add some dry ingredients to shortening and sugar mixture.
Mix water and molasses and add alternately with the flour.
Roll into 1-inch balls.
Brush tops with water and bake.
Frost or roll in powdered sugar.
