Ginger Cucumber Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    large and old yellow cucumbers
    2 c. pickling lime
    1 pkg. alum
    1 pkg. ginger
    3 pt. vinegar
    2 pt. water
    5 lb. sugar
    1/2 pkg. pickling spice
Preparation
    Peel and remove seeds from ripe cucumbers.
    Cut in small pieces (5 pounds prepared).
    Soak 24 hours in 2 gallons water and small box of alum.
    Wash well.
    Soak 6 hours in 2 gallons of water and 1 box ginger.
    Soak 3 to 4 hours in 3 pints vinegar, 2 pints water, 5 pounds sugar and 1/2 box pickling spices.
    Boil for 1 hour or until crystal clear (transparent).
    Place in sterilized jars.
    Cucumbers can soak in vinegar and sugar overnight.
