Red Devil'S Food Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 c. shortening
    2 c. sugar
    2 eggs
    1/2 c. buttermilk
    1 tsp. salt
    2 c. flour (measure before sifting)
    2 heaping Tbsp. cocoa
    1 c. hot water
    1 tsp. soda
Preparation
    Cream shortening and sugar.
    Add eggs one at a time, beating in well.
    Add buttermilk alternately with flour to which salt has been added, beating well.
    Mix to a paste cocoa and 1/2 cup hot water.
    Add soda to other 1/2 cup hot water.
    Add both to mixture. After mixing it will seem rather thin, but that is as it should be.
    Bake in 3 (8-inch) pans or 2 (9-inch) pans which have been greased and lined with wax paper at 350\u00b0 until testing done with a toothpick.
    Frost with 7 Minute Frosting.
    Cover with shredded coconut.
