Country Style Pea Soup - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. dried split peas
    8 c. hot water
    ham hocks or bones
    1 garlic clove, finely chopped
    1 medium onion, grated
    3 c. chopped celery and tops
    1 Tbsp. salt
    1/8 tsp. pepper
Preparation
    Combine all ingredients.
    Heat to boiling.
    Reduce and simmer for 3 or more hours.
    If you have leftover ham, this may be added towards last.
