World'S Best Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    14 lb. sliced cucumbers
    salt
    water
    4 oz. alum
    1 gal. vinegar
    10 lb. sugar + 4 c.
    pickling spices
    pickling lime
Preparation
    Soak sliced cucumbers overnight in 2 double handfuls of lime and water.
    Next, soak 2 hours in clear water, then add alum and bring to a boil; drain.
    Next, add vinegar and sugar.
    Now tie a bag of mixed pickling spices and hang into syrup.
    Boil for 30 minutes, then can.
    Makes about 14 quarts.
