Layered Potatoes - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 to 5 lb. potatoes
    2 to 3 medium onions
    1 stick butter
    salt
    pepper
    1/4 c. water
    1 medium box Velveeta cheese
Preparation
    Scrub potatoes.
    Leaving skins on, cut into slices about 1/4-inch thick.
    Peel onions and cut into 1/4-inch slices also. Separate into rings.
    Starting with potatoes, layer potatoes, onion rings, salt, pepper and pats of butter in a large casserole, ending with onion rings.
    Pour water in bottom of dish.
    Cover tightly with foil and bake at 350\u00b0 for 1 to 1 1/2 hours or until tender.
    Remove from oven and cover with a layer of Velveeta.
    Put in oven just long enough to melt.
