Apple Dumplings - cooking recipe

7 medium tart apples
2/3 c. sugar
2 Tbsp. butter
1 1/4 c. hot water or cider
pinch of salt
1/2 tsp. lemon juice
plain pastry
Preparation

Peel, core and thickly slice apples.
Roll pastry out in a rectangle about 11 x 8-inches and 1/8-inch thick; cut into 6 equal squares.
Spoon 1/6 of the apples in the center of each square. Sprinkle each with 1 tablespoon sugar; dot with butter.
Moisten edges of each pastry; gather up and pinch together, sealing the apples.
Transfer to 10 x 6 x 2-inch baking pan.
Combine hot water, remaining sugar, salt and lemon juice.
Pour into pan around dumplings.
Bake in hot oven 450\u00b0 for 12 minutes or until lightly brown.
