Norwegian Reubens - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    12 slices rye bread
    1 thinly sliced purple onion, separated into rings
    1/2 lb. sauerkraut
    1 medium apple, chopped
    1/4 tsp. caraway seed
    1/4 lb. pastrami
    1/2 lb. sliced Nokkelost cheese
    1/4 lb. sliced turkey
    2 to 3 Tbsp. margarine
Preparation
    Top 6 slices rye bread with onions, dividing evenly.
    Combine sauerkraut, apples and caraway seed.
    Spoon over onions.
    Top with pastrami, cheese and turkey.
    Cover with remaining slices of bread.
    Melt 1 tablespoon butter in large skillet over low heat. Grill sandwiches until golden on both sides, turning once, adding additional butter as needed.
    Makes 6 sandwiches.
