Vegetable Soup - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    soup bones or beef flavored base (3 oz.)
    3 to 4 qt. water
    1 1/2 c. chopped carrots
    1 c. chopped celery
    1 medium onion, chopped
    1 c. chopped turnips or 1 leek, chopped (use white part)
    1/2 c. medium pearl barley *
    clove of garlic (optional)
    1/2 tsp. fresh basil (optional)
Preparation
    *Instant barley works, but does not taste as good.
    Boil less time for quick.
