Queen Elizabeth Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. white sugar
    1/4 c. oleo
    1 1/2 c. flour
    1 tsp. baking powder
    1/4 tsp. salt
    1 tsp. soda
    1 c. chopped dates
    1/2 c. boiling water
    1 tsp. vanilla
Preparation
    Pour boiling water over soda and dates; let stand while mixing other ingredients.
    Cream sugar and oleo; add egg.
    Add sifted flour, baking powder and salt.
    Then add nuts and date mixture. Bake in a 9 x 13-inch greased pan at 350\u00b0.
    When cake is done, pour the icing over cake and return to oven until brown and bubbly.
