Holiday Fruit Drops - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3 1/2 c. sifted all-purpose flour
    1 tsp. baking soda
    1 c. soft shortening
    1 tsp. vinegar
    2 c. halved candied cherries
    1 tsp. salt
    2 c. packed brown sugar
    1/2 c. buttermilk
    1 1/2 c. coarsely chopped pecans
    2 c. cut up pitted dates
Preparation
    Sift flour with baking soda and salt.
    Mix shortening, sugar and eggs until creamy.
    Blend in flour mixture alternately with buttermilk and vinegar.
    Stir in pecans, cherries and dates. Refrigerate 1 hour.
    Bake at 400\u00b0 on greased cookie sheet. Drop 1 rounded teaspoonful of dough 2-inches apart.
    Top each with pecan half. Bake 8 to 10 minutes. Makes about 8 dozen.
