Bread And Butter Pickles - cooking recipe
Ingredients

6 qt. thinly sliced cucumbers (about 2 doz.)
6 onions, thinly sliced
1 qt. mild vinegar
2 c. brown sugar
2 tsp. celery seed
1 tsp. ground mace
1/4 tsp. cayenne
2 tsp. mustard seed
1 tsp. turmeric
Preparation

Combine cucumbers and onions. Cover with cold brine (1/4 cup salt to each quart of water).
Drain.
Combine vinegar, sugar, celery seed, mace, cayenne, mustard seed and turmeric.
Boil 3 minutes. Add drained cucumbers and onions. Bring mixture to boiling point.
Pack in hot jars; seal at once.
Makes about 8 pints.
