Grandmother'S Orange Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. sugar
    1 c. butter
    1 1/4 c. buttermilk
    1 tsp. soda
    4 eggs
    4 c. sifted cake flour
    1 Tbsp. grated orange rind
    2 c. chopped pecans
    1/2 lb. chopped dates
Preparation
    Cream butter and sugar.
    Mix buttermilk and soda; add to creamed mixture.
    Add eggs, one at a time, beating after each addition.
    Mix in flour, orange rind and fruits and nuts which have been lightly floured.
    Pour into tube pan.
    Bake at 350\u00b0 for 1 1/2 hours, or until cake tests done.
    Leave cake in pan; punch several holes in it with ice pick.
    Pour on filling.
    Let cake remain in pan for several hours or overnight.
