Ice Water Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 qt. sliced small cucumbers
    1 red and 1 green pepper (optional)
    6 onions, sliced
    1/3 c. coarse salt
    5 c. white vinegar
    2 tsp. mustard seed
    1 1/2 Tbsp. celery seed
    1 1/2 Tbsp. turmeric
    5 c. sugar
Preparation
    Cut up together the first 3 ingredients.
    Sprinkle with salt. Mix. Empty a single tray of ice cubes on them.
    Let stand 3 hours. Drain.
    Mix remaining ingredients.
    Heat syrup to boiling.
    Add pickles.
    Bring to a boil again and put in jars immediately. Yields 8 to 9 pints.
