Dill Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/8 tsp. powdered alum
    1 clove garlic
    grape leaves
    3 qt. water
    2 heads dill
    1 hot red pepper
    1 c. salt
    1 qt. vinegar
    cucumbers
Preparation
    Wash cucumbers.
    Cover with hot water and let stand until hot through.
    Pack into hot jars.
    To each quart, add the listed amounts of alum, dill, pepper and garlic with a grape leaf or two. Combine vinegar, salt and water.
    Heat to boiling, fill jars and seal.
    Makes 6 to 8 quarts.
    Put in hot water in a large pot on stove for 20 minutes or more, then remove from water.
