Nine Day Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    10 medium cukes
    8 c. sugar
    2 Tbsp. mixed pickling spices
    5 tsp. salt
    4 c. cider vinegar
Preparation
    Cover whole cloves with boiling water; allow to stand overnight.
    Drain and repeat this procedure for 3 days.
    On 5th day drain and slice to 1/2-inch chunks.
    Combine sugar, spices, salt and vinegar.
    Bring to boiling point and pour over cukes. Let stand 2 days.
    On 3rd day, bring to boil, put in hot sterile jars and seal.
    Makes 4 to 5 pints.
