Classic Waldorf Salad - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 or 3 Washington Red or Golden Delicious apples, cored and diced to measure 2 c.
    1 Tbsp. sugar
    1/2 tsp. lemon juice
    dash of salt
    1 c. sliced celery
    1/2 c. chopped walnuts
    1/4 c. mayonnaise
    1/2 c. whipping cream, whipped
    salad greens
    1 (15 1/2 oz.) can crushed pineapple
    1 (3 oz.) pkg. cherry-flavored gelatin
    1 (11 oz.) can mandarin oranges, drained
    1 (8 oz.) carton creamed cottage cheese
    1 (4 1/2 oz.) carton frozen whipped topping, thawed
    lettuce leaves
Preparation
    Pour the pineapple with its juice into a small saucepan.
    Cook over medium heat until juice comes to a boil, about 4 to 6 minutes.
    Remove from heat.
    Pour gelatin mix into large, glass mixing bowl.
    Carefully pour pineapple and juice into bowl.
    Stir with a wooden spoon until gelatin is dissolved.
    Chill in the refrigerator until it is cool and begins to thicken, about 2 hours.
