Broccoli Chinese Style - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 small bunch broccoli
    2 Tbsp. oil
    1 tsp. baking soda
    1/2 tsp. salt (optional)
    1/2 tsp. sugar (optional)
    1/2 c. water
    2 tsp. soy sauce
Preparation
    Wash broccoli; cut flowerets off stem.
    Peel off stringy outsides and cut stems diagonally in 1-inch pieces.
    Parboil broccoli in boiling water which has 1 teaspoon baking soda added to it.
    This will help retain the green color of the broccoli. Rinse in cold water and drain.
    Heat the oil in a skillet.
    Add the broccoli; saute until covered with oil.
    Add remaining ingredients; mix well.
    Cover skillet; turn heat down and cook until broccoli is tender, approximately 2 to 3 minutes.
    Serves 4.
