Corn Pone - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 1/4 c. cornmeal
    1 tsp. salt
    4 Tbsp. lard
    2/3 tsp. baking soda
    3/4 c. boiling water
    1/2 c. buttermilk
Preparation
    Sift cornmeal with soda and salt.
    Work the lard into the dry ingredients and blend well.
    Add the boiling water and continue blending.
    Slowly add the buttermilk until a soft dough is formed. The buttermilk should be added very slowly to ensure the dough contains enough consistency to be molded into small cakes.
    Grease a skillet, heat it and place the cake in the skillet.
    Flatten and bake them in a preheated oven at 350\u00b0 for 30 to 40 minutes, until lightly brown and done.
