Ingredients

1 c. maple syrup
1 tsp. shortening
3 tsp. sugar
1 egg
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 c. milk
1 c. flour
2 tsp. baking powder
Preparation

Bring maple syrup to boiling.
Pour into loaf pan.
Mix all other ingredients with electric mixer until very smooth.
Pour batter over maple syrup.
Bake at 400\u00b0 about 25 minutes.
Turn upside down on platter after cooling about 10 minutes.
Slice and serve with whipped cream, nuts or ice cream.
