Applesauce Cake - cooking recipe
Ingredients

1 c. shortening
1 1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. brown sugar
1 egg
3 c. sifted flour
2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. nutmeg
1/4 tsp. cocoa
2 tsp. vanilla
2 c. applesauce
1 c. chopped nuts
whipped cream (optional)
Preparation

In a bowl, cream the shortening until light.
Gradually beat in the sugars.
Beat in egg.
Sift together flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg and cocoa.
Stir vanilla into applesauce. Add sifted ingredients and applesauce alternately to the creamed mixture, mixing after each addition.
Add chopped nuts.
Pour into greased 9 x 13 x 2-inch pan.
Bake for 1 hour at 325\u00b0.
Cool in pan on cake rack.
(Whipped cream topping is optional.)
