English Toffee - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. sugar
    1 c. oleo
    3 Tbsp. water
    1 tsp. vanilla
    6 plain Hershey Bars (remember when they used to cost a nickel?)
Preparation
    Combine first 3 ingredients in a heavy pan.
    Using a candy thermometer, cook to 300\u00b0 (hard crack) on medium heat.
    STIR CONSTANTLY.
    Add vanilla.
    Pour on to greased cookie sheet, spreading 1/4 inch thick.
    Quickly lay candy bars on top . Spread evenly as they melt.
    Cool, break into small pieces and wrap each in plastic wrap.
    A 25 year favorite of our family!!
