Pear Preserves - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 qt. sliced pears
    water
    5 c. sugar
    1/2 medium lemon
Preparation
    Peel, core and slice pears.
    Place pears in dishpan.
    Cover with water.
    Cook until tender.
    Remove pears from liquid.
    Reserve 2 cups of liquid.
    Add to pears 5 cups sugar, lemon slices and reserved liquid.
    Cook over medium heat until thickened, 1 to 2 hours.
    Place in jars and seal.
