Date Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 tsp baking soda
    2 c. boiling water
    3/4 c. butter
    1 tsp salt
    3 tsp maple flavoring
    3 c. chopped dates
    2 c. sugar
    2 eggs, well beaten
    2 c. sifted flour
    1 c. chopped nuts, floured
Preparation
    Sprinkle soda over dates.
    Add water and mix.
    Cream sugar with butter, mix in eggs, salt and flour.
    Add to date mixture.
    Blend in flavoring and nuts.
    If you prefer a less pronounced maple taste use 1 tsp.
    Pour into greased 9 x 13 pan.
    Bake 400\u00b0 for 15 minutes or until cake begins to brown, lower heat to 325\u00b0 and bake 35 minutes more.
    Serve sliced, warm or cold, plain or with whipped cream flavored with lemon extract.
